How much to order:

To determine the number of cubic yards required for a job,
follow these steps:

  1. Divide the job into simple rectangular sections and
    determine their dimension in feet.
  2. Multiply length x width x depth for each section to
    get volume in cubic feet.
  3. Divide by 27 to get cubic yards.
  4. Add up all sections to get the total volume requirement.
Measurement Example
(Slab 20 ft. wide, 40 ft. long & 4 in. deep)
Equation:
Convert inches to footage (4" ÷ 12" = .333)
20 x 40 x .333 = 266.66 cubic feet
2666 ÷ 27 = 9.87 cubic yards

Extra concrete should always be ordered to allow for losses, grade variations, compaction, etc. Five to ten percent extra is a good rule of thumb.
